Short Information
Under the Advocates Act 1961, every Advocate practising in India must be enrolled with one of the State Bar Councils, with the Bar Council of India (BCI) as the apex regulator. Each enrolled Advocate carries a State Roll Number — used as proof of professional standing in courts and tribunals. Following the Verification of Advocates Rules 2015, BCI publishes a verified Advocate List filtered by State, plus the discrepant / un-verified list of names whose qualifications were challenged. Litigants, government recruiters and law firms cross-check Advocate authenticity through the State Bar Council's online roll plus the BCI verification list. The All India Bar Examination (AIBE) Pass-Out certificates are also available via BCI's portal.Under the Advocates Act 1961, every Advocate practising in India must be enrolled with one of the State Bar Councils, with the Bar Council of India (BCI) as the apex regulator.
